I’ve been looking around at ballistics gel pictures, and I found something a bit interesting. I wouldn’t reccomend using .22 for defense, but if your budget says you have no choice, you should look into Aguila Sniper Subsonic 60 grain .22 ammunition. It’s slow, quiet, but the big difference can be seen here

The outlined larger wound cavity is the ammo mentioned above, the small cavity is caused by standard .22 LR. That small cavity isn’t going to stop someone with adrenaline pumping unless it’s in a heart or a head, and it’s not really practical to assume that you’re going to be able to place your shots in the heart or head. So if you’re using .22, the Aguila SS 60gr. might give you a better chance on a budget. It’s about $50 for 500 rounds

Also, you could look into getting a Mosin Nagant, for about $80, with cheap ammo. It’s cheap, but it’s got around the same power as a 30-06.

However, If your budget allows, definitely look for something other than a .22LR. For comparison to the ballistics gel of the .22, here’s some gel shot by different .308 rounds – http://ammo.ar15.com/project/Misc_Images/DocGKR/308_TAP_comparison.jpg” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false
