I homeschool and as a project we tried acorns since they were a staple of the American Indian. Not bad. Kind of a bland/nutty taste. Of course, you have to first leach out the tannin that makes them bitter. We then roasted them and crushed them into a flour. There are lots of oak trees here in southern Oregon and it is good to know that in a pinch acorns are an abundant and nutritious food source.

Also there are lots of wild roses. Rose hips are very high in vitamin C to prevent scurvy and other disorders. You could eat them raw or put them into tea with blackberry leaves and/or wild mint.
