Ball lid and ring blew off jars

    I just had a bad experience and wondered if any of you had something similar. I canned sliced apples in a hot water bath using ball jars, lids and rings. After slightly cooking in a light syrup for 5 minutes I filled to 3/4 -1/2 inch. Removed excess bubbles and processed for 20 minutes. When removing the first jar the lid and ring literally blew off. Needless to say the kitchen was a mess. NO trouble after that. Has anyone else had that happen? I can’t figure out how the lid and ring blew off since the ring was screwed on with the ball jar ring tightener.
