Looks like the H1N1 Flu strain from 2009 is returning with an impact, this year. NOW would be the time to review your flu prep supplies (including cough/cold/flu meds and sick room supplies, arranging alternate child care, in case YOU get sick or consider having a flu buddy that can step in and help with keeping the family routine going.)

SALT LAKE CITY — Two Salt Lake County residents have died from the flu, marking the first deaths of the season related to the highly contagious viral infection.

The Salt Lake County Health Department confirmed the deaths Thursday, adding that both occurred in adults between the ages of 35 and 64 years old.

“These deaths serve as a tragic reminder to all of us that influenza can be a serious disease for anyone,” said Dr. Ilene Risk, county epidemiologist. “I can’t stress strongly enough that everyone over the age of 6 months old should get a flu shot every year to prevent illness and to avoid passing the virus to others.”

The number of reported influenza cases continues to climb in Salt Lake County and the health department expects to see more, as the holiday season brought many people into close contact. — CONTINUEd —
