Federal funding worth $4.8 million is being sent to the University of Hawaii’s National Disaster Preparedness Center.

Sens. Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka announced the funding, which comes through a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Training Program for the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium.
The center also received $4.8 million last year.
Inouye said that as an isolated state in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii needs to be prepared to protect citizens from natural disasters.

As an addition, I strongly believe that Hawaii residents must also prepare on their own individually to be better able and prepared with much needed skills of their own in the event that emergency responders cannot reach families beyond the 72 hours time frame. This only makes sound sense and may also be a matter of life and death for many if not all. Never take anything for granted especially when it comes to your life or families, learn the much needed emergency skills while you can and develop a plan with your family, friends and neighbors to always be better prepared and a step ahead of the game.
