Huge iron kettle

    I have one of those huge iron kettles you used to see beans cooked in at dinners way back when. It hasn’t
    been used in probably 50 years or more. How could I scar it out good to make it useable again. I’m sure
    it must have some surface rust, need to look inside, its upside down to keep water out. The outside isn’t
    bad at all.

    I think they also may have used them to make lye soap or to render fat in. I have a big copper kettle too
    would these poison you after so many years?
