oxygen absorbers and canning in jars

    Hi Guys, I am dry canning for the first time; just beans, rice, sugar, and flour to start. All I did was drop two 100cc packets into each filled 1qt canning jar. After about 30min the lids popped on all but one jar. When you are dry canning, do the lids need to pop for a proper seal or does it not matter for dry goods? And just to double check, this does take the place of a vacuum sealer correct?
