    If you were in a survival group that had become divided, half wanting to do one thing, half the other, how would you prevent an internal civil war between the two sides which are unwilling to compromise on the issues?

    I’d seek a middle ground, compromise, or similar. That’s assuming the choices aren’t so binary that I haven’t found myself firmly in either camp.

    Just curious, was this meant as a wider metaphor?

    Oh, sorry. I read your post again. If both sides are unwilling to compromise on an issue being in the middle of answer A or answer B, you need to create a situation where answer C has to be acceptable to both sides. That could be a deflection to a new issue tabling the first one, or an escalation of the original issue where neither prior option will succeed.
