  • That’s what I used it for at first, Christmas gifts. If you like spicy foods, you can make cream of potato with dehyudrated onions and jalapenos. Be careful, though, because the peppers get VERY hot. Using nonfat dry milk won’t cut the heat, you have to add some fat to do that. Anyway, I made it with dehydrated hash browns, peppers, and…[Read more]

  • I made a really good soup-in-a-jar (plastic bag!) using dehydrated mushrooms, dehydrated leeks and celery, cooked and dehydrated rice, and a small bag of country gravy powder bought in bulk. Cooked the solids in water and milk until it was all rehydrated, then added the powdered gravy mix and boiled to thicken to taste. This is some awesome…[Read more]

Well, I tried it. Canned 9 pints today. Put the jars in the oven, melted and stirred 8 pounds of butter, filled the pints to just over an inch from the top, which may have been too much, and they all pinged, they blended well with shaking, and we will see what happens now ! I only paid $1.88 a pound for the butter before Christmas, and it was…[Read more]

  • I store mine two ways. Some of them end up with sharp edges that don’t store well in vacuum bags. Sometimes I line the bags with a thick paper towel to keep the bags from puncturing, but more often I take the sharp ones and store them in Mason jars, using the lid sealer from my FoodSaver. For the ones I use regularly, like onions or sweet…[Read more]

Could you put solid butter in the jars and then put them in the oven? That would eliminate the stirring of the melted butter on the stove top. I am really interested in doing this, so am curious.

  • I just started prepping in June of last year, but went totally OCD about it and have way more than one year’s worth of home canned, commercially canned, freeze dried, dehydrated, frozen, and dry good storage, as well as four alternate cooking and heat sources, stored water, two cords of personally cut firewood, and all the amenities that a total…[Read more]

  • I am a huge fan of the man. I love his boldness of faith, although I do not always agree with LDS philosophies. The greatest truth he presents is the need for a change in the hearts of men (and women), that we have to get back to God before we can truly get America back.

There are times I do grow weary of the constant crisis mentality, but I…[Read more]
