question. Anyone have a neat way of calculating canned goods and how many ozs equal how many servings? And then a way to break down for the amount of adults/children in your family? I have one spreadsheet that serves as a good recorder for dried goods (wheat, sugar, beans, rice, etc) but nothing for canned commercial goods. And honestly I don’t…[Read more]

So recently my family and I went to the range. It’s been a while so I’m a bit out of practice. I didn’t do too bad but of course I was still facing the same issue I did a long time ago. I jump massively at the sound of weapons being fired. As a matter of fact I jump any time I heard any loud crack. I’m not a fireworks lover. When I was a…[Read more]

Installed two new security cameras which has been on our to do list for a bit. Gotten some work in the garden but still have a massive amount of work to do there. Have some clearing that needs to be done. Out of our 3 hives, we think one died, sadly. One of the other three are rockstars though; they’re going nuts with expanding. We acquired 4…[Read more]

Hey all, So we moved from town into a way more rural area. We now have a crawlspace and the previous owners did warn us that during spring moisture will be a problem down there. We are going to invest in a dehumidifier and I’ve purchased some moisture absorbers to put inside of cans, plastic containers and rubbermaid containers. But is there…[Read more]

Okay, don’t know if this is in the right area.
The current home we live in (we own it, or at least we own the mortgage on it) is in a townhome community. Officially its a condo.
It has no firestove, no fireplace, and the heating is natural gas that requires power to open the zone valves which then allow the heated water into the radiators around…[Read more] -

Lorie,
Well I’m a travel agent for the government who gets a prepaid card loaded when I’ve booked rentals for customers. I saved up with that and then told him last night that I had enough.
We do a lot of camping, especially during the summer months so I convinced hubby this would be a cool thing to have when camping as I can bake bread in that…[Read more] -

Actually the kicker for me was my Mom did her best to rear a gentile lady that would possibly someday be married to a man of means which would allow me a life of comfort.
That meant she kept me about as far away from animal husbandry, firing weapons or other useful skills like that. Only now, since I’ve pretty much rebelled…[Read more] -

I’m good at gardening (I can make almost any sort of plant grow. Right now I’m super excited that I got my Turmeric growing!), canning, cooking, and herbalism. I bake my own artisan bread, make my own yogurt and soft spreadable cheeses as well.
I’m reasonably okay at knitting and sewing but I need to practice more.
I’m just learning more on…[Read more]
