  • Oak,
I used a 5 pound very lean beef roast. It was huge. I bought a device that pumps hamburger out in various shapes to make jerky out of. The shapes are round and flat. Either way looks too much like turds. I quit using it and started buying lean beef roasts. The main thing is to try to make the slices the same thickness. That way they will be…[Read more]

  • A while back, I made some beef jerky for a lady that I worked with. I let her have it for cost. The total cost was about $30.00. The jerky filled a gallon zip lock baggie full. There is no telling how much that would have cost at the store. Jerky is high down here.

  • Someone mentioned the $3.00 solar driveway lights at Walmart, the other day. I can’t remember who it was. I went to Walmart a few minutes ago. They did a rollback. The lights are $1.50 now. I bought 2 for $3.00. I have one in the sun. I took the other one apart. It’s easy to do. There are 3 screws that hold the bottom plate on. The lights have 1…[Read more]

  • Biscuits are bread and I can make some killer cat head biscuits. Most are 5 inches across and close to 2 inches high.

  • If you have a serrated knife, you probably know this. I have a round diamond stone that is handy for sharpening serrated blades. Mine is similar to this.

  • If you are really into drying food, get a second on or even a third one. You can do so much more. I think mine is called an American Harvester. It’ got 5 or 6 trays. With most dryers, you can buy more trays. We got a good deal on some peaches last summer. We’re still eating them. My dryer has a plastic bottom for one tray. It’s curved up on the…[Read more]

  • It was my understanding that chicken and pork were not good to try to dry. The potential for bacteria is too great. If I am wrong point me to the right info. I have always dried beef.

  • Some foods will turn brown if you don’t treat them. I used lemon juice. I used the concentrated lemon juice, about a cup to a gallon of water. I let the veggies soak for an hour. I put a clean, dry towel on the table and put the veggies on it to dry them.

  • Chuckd,

Go up and hit the home page if you are not already on it. In the upper left hand side of the screen, you will see a user control panel. Click on that. When you do that you will see several options sort of in the upper left side of the screen. Click on profile. Once you do this you will see edit signature. The statement at the bottom of…[Read more]

    Joe,
As far as the FCC, what do you need to have? Maybe you can shed some light on the watts, devices and requirements. I like to stay legal.

You see the newer GMRS radios with claims of 25 mile ranges. Don’t believe it. If you got hills, hollers, trees, houses, power lines, you ain’t going to get nowhere near that. I just looked at an add tha had 34 mile range. If you were in the desert on flat ground and nothing but sand, you could do pretty good. You got to boost the watts and if you…[Read more]

My brother in law is a retired LEO. He still has his radio. I don’t know the brand but you talk about reaching out and touching somebody. I don’t know the true range but it is way out there. The only drawback is you have to be a cop or have a FCC permit. I have been thinking about applying for a permit and getting on to match his. Might as well…[Read more]

  • Ka-Bar is a good knife. There is a legend as to how the name Ka-Bar came about.

    How KA-BAR Got Its Name
Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920’s, the KA-BAR trademark became widely known and respected. There have been many versions of how the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This…[Read more]

    Kym,

Go to the site that has the picture that you want to post. There is a control right above the computer clock. The control will enlarge or shrink what you see on the site, in fact it will shrink the whole page. The control is probably set on 100%. Click the button and a column of %numbers will pop up. Start out at 30%. Use your cursor and…[Read more]

  • 2012 is nothing. It don’t mean squat. Just another year. 2039 is some worry. An asteroid will pass close to earth. It is a pretty big rock. it is 800 feet in diameter. The one that hit Russia was half that size and flattened a 1000 square miles. If it hits, people are going to be in a world of hurt. Russia is already working on a plan to divert it’s path.

You can boil your water at a rolling boil for 15 minutes and that will kill any critters in the water. That won’t remove them but they will be dead. At this point, the critters can’t do you or your loved ones any harm. Now at this point, if you want to get all those dead critters out, it just depends on how much money you want to spend on a…[Read more]
