Congratulations on your Excalibur! I bought mine soon after that post in January and have used it a lot. I recently dried a bushel of apples from my parents’ orchard.
I am so sorry I didn’t look at the dates! Well, wonderful to hear that you are having fun with the dehydrater! How nice that your parents have a orchard!
Today I got…[Read more] -

Thanks, SciFi. I love that website and have bookmarked it. I also learned from reading about your experience and appreciate your sharing what worked and what didn’t. This is something I am definitely going to try.
Ldychef2k, your experience with dehydrators was very interesting and timely. A link on the dehydrate2store site led me…

Shelli, lots of alternatives you can do:

You can also search on that site for solar dehydrators.
One word of advice: don’t get dehydrating: a bug will bite you and you have yours running 24/7.

What a wonderful and interesting topic this is. I don’t know any one over here who is prepping. I did talk to someone recently who has food storage, but never uses it.
So I don’t talk about what I do, don’t feel the need to. What I did do was organizing food coops. That can be a very good way to get to know ppl at least who are interested in bulk…[Read more] -

I am wondering how you all do this. Being the only prepper to my knowledge in my surroundings I am getting a lot of strange looks my way because I simply refuse to buy things for my kids which are not really necessery (in my opinion). Example: every couple of years or so it is freezing enough to go out and go skating on natural ice. Since my…[Read more]

I have been water bath canning for years now. I have to tell you I am looking for so many years now for information (and letting it sink in) about pressure canning and I am still learning. It is something not done in the Netherlands, I can even say Europe(!) so I have to rely on information from the US.

There were apples on sale last week so I bought a couple of kilo’s. I planned to can them for pie filling, but my kids wanted dried apple with cinnamon.. So I am now making them. I make little parts spray them with lemon juice and then cinnamon powder. I mix them with nuts and there you have our snacks.
I dry the peels as well: make them into…[Read more] -

I bought the book, but I haven’t read it completely yet. I don’t eat meat for years now, not that I don’t like meat, but I don’t like the way the animals are treathed: like mass products in china. The book so far gave me another perspective. I’ll eat meat again, when I can raise the stock myself.
An interesting film about the mass production of…[Read more] -
