Re: So Obama turned prepper

Not unusual. For months now, FEMA, the Red Cross and the CDC, who I follow on FB, have been posting threads nearly every week about having an emergency plan and state of readiness. I believe the agencies have been ramping up getting the message out there, particularly in the last six months or so.

Re: The Market Basket Debacle

My mom canned anything and everything. I remember her taking gallon vinegar jugs and canning tomato juice in them. We sealed with corks and sealing wax, nowadays they would tell you you would die. We didn't and it was good. I have quite a few boxes of wax back, well you just never know. Be sure and...

Re: The Market Basket Debacle

I want to thank everyone who buys from there local Farmer's. We live in the communities, spend our money in the communities, and give back to the communities. Its a life style that is shrinking ever year. Thanks, Farmer Wouldn't have it any other way. I can't grow corn(no space) and sometimes the o...

Re: The Market Basket Debacle

I'm a fan of developing relationships with your local farmer's market if you have one close. I started not because of Prepping but because the local Meijer store began to carry more and more imported produce. Now it's nearly all imported. If you shop the farmer's market and get to know them you'll ...

The Market Basket Debacle

For weeks now, Market Basket has had bare shelves because of the family feud, which made national news, in which employees walked off the job in protest of the firing of Arthur T. Demoulas by his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas, and the board of directors of this chain of stores. The feud has been ongoin...

Re: Spouse says food prep is necessary not anything else

I get the impression the OP doesn't work and is allocated monies from her husband's salary. If that's the case maybe a part time job is in order. If the OP does work then her salary is to do with as she wishes provided the household requirements are met first. I don't work, having retired 5 years ag...

Re: Teachers with 200 Acres seeks Prepping Partner

Prepping partner or cash cow? One of the strangest requests for money I've ever seen.

Re: Flexibility in SHTF Plans

I don't think I've ever had a plan that didn't have to be reworked to some degree. One size will never fit all but as far as power outages go we keep small flashlights everywhere in the house. I even keep a baseball cap with a small light on it right by the bed so I can navigate my way downstairs a...

Re: Flexibility in SHTF Plans

"I am fine with reworking and having more than one plan based on time of day, or weather -- but I guess I'm late to the party again because it just occurred to me that one-size doesn't-fit-all when it comes to planning out even the first couple of hours. Thought I'd bring it up in case there is...

Re: scoring\rating your prep's & skills

shelter: Out in the boonies in a small country town. Not visible from the road and fairly well surrounded by trees and wetland. Good views all around. food: For 2 people, a year. For the expected 4 total(I hope) about 8 months, perhaps. A small greenhouse that's productive from March until November ...

Re: MSNBC admits Ferguson store owners needed Assault Weapon

Everyone is focusing on those cigars and not on the assault that was videotaped. Just what if that store owner fell and injured his head or was killed or became comatose because of that injury? I won't jump to conclusions as to what happened, because , like Bubba, would prefer to wait for the invest...

Re: The best states to prepare in?

Having lived in the northeast all my life I'll take the change of seasons, cold weather included; we're acclimated to it. We can also extend our shorter growing season. We collect enough wood to burn all through the winter. My husband and I have both been stationed in the south and while he finds th...
