Re: Storing rice in buckets question

I do it they way OARS does it, freeze and then buckets. I add a few bay leaves to the buckets as an insect deterrent. We are now eating seven year old rice with no problems. Rice is a grain. Grains are easy to store. The exception is brown rice which goes rancid in a few months.

Re: Emergency Essentials 160-gal. water tanks more than 50%

Several people around here are selling the 275 gallon water jugs. Someone thought it was a good money maker and everyone else thought so too. Now available for $50 a tank. They are called IBC totes, International Bulk Containers. They are used to ship liquids around the world. I have a couple to co...

Re: Coffee Grounds Fire Logs

I burn between three and four cords of firewood in my wood stove over a winter. That stack is about the size of a small school bus. It is all free. I just have to cut, split, and stack it. Using coffee grounds, I would have buy about 20 Starbuck's franchises. That, or drink one heck of a lot more co...

Re: Power outage

North Korea caused it.

Kalifornia had an earthquake registering 10 on the Richter Scale. Broke all the wires.

All the snowflakes ran to the shore causing Kalifornia to tip over into the sea.

Re: EMP strikes

I think you would be amazed on what some of old farts could do if necessary. When the dust settled we'd have things rebuilt in a hurry. Like the man said- do these things instead of just reading about them. How many people would actually have the experience If an EMP to grow a garden or milk a cow ...

Get 5 gallon buckets from grocery store bakeries. They smell like vanilla. Most places are free, but Walmart charges a dollar.

Re: storing food without climate control

You can bury a scrapped chest freezer partially in the ground and cover the top half with straw bales. Plastic food grade barrels with screw on lids can be done the same way. Pick a spot with northern exposure. Caulk the inside seams of the freezer box with silicone to prevent water entry. I sell su...
