Foraging book suggestions

Postby Timon01 » Mon Jun 25, 2012 7:47 am

Hey all,

Located between Buffalo and Syracuse in NY. I'm looking to improve my library in the foraging / wild edibles department. :help: I'm looking for serious suggestions on books :D , or serious "don't buys" with reasons.

Also, does anyone have a line on any groups in my area?

Thanks in Advance!

I have recently purchased Wild Edible Mushrooms (ISBN 978-0-7627-7143-1) by Hope Miller. I' also have had The Forager's Harvest (ISBN 978-0-9766266-0-2) by Samuel Thayer and carry the Audobon Society Field Guilde to Trees in my Jeep. Hope that helps you.

Winston, Julia, or O'Brien? How about none of the above?

You may want to consider, 'Foraging New England.' I havent read it yet, but it's on the way.

I've been on the fence about learning mushroom foraging. It's seems like a lot of risk for minimal nutritional reward.

Samuel Thayer also wrote Natures Garden, I carry it and Foragers Harvest with me, both are very well made, and cover completely different sets of plants.
