What do you like best about Spring?

Postby Vina8 » Fri Mar 19, 2010 6:35 pm

Today was perfect out today here in North Carolina. The trees are budding out, the iris and daffodils are blooming, and I picked Chinese cabbage and green onions out of the garden for supper. DH planted those last fall and they survived the winter beautifully and are growing well. The birds are back. We have a vulture that soars the woods and hollow behind our house everyday. The best thing about spring is that I can open all the windows!

I don't have to pay for my heating bill!

I'm not stuck in the house.
I can get more things done.
It's warm!!!!

That there are only two more seasons to go to get back to fall. Spring is not my favorite time.

No more cold and snow. We can bbq again. I love cooking out doors. Working in the garden and waiting to can what we grew.

That's because it doesn't snow and get bitter cold in Reno NV. Not Yet...

It was 72 degrees here today. We're projected to get six to twelve inches of snow tomorrow. Go figure. I'll tell you what I like best about spring when I remember what it actually is...

I know by the calender that Spring is supposed to be almost here. Our only indication is the hours of sunlight per day now. By sunday, we will have 12 hours of sunlight per day and a couple mor ehours of very bright dusk and dawn stuff. We still have a few feet of snow and the temperature last night was 3 degrees. The high today was 15 degrees.
However, I DO open the windows, it feels nice and airs out the house. I just don't leave them open all night. OK, so I also crank up the wood heat a notch or two while the windows are open, LOL. No bugs yet to worry about getting in.

Yep, fresh air is awesome .. and best part of spring here is the smell of orange blossoms!!! So sweet and heavenly you can almost chew the air! It's not too intense yet but millions of buds on our trees. And more critter sightings! Seen 2 bobcats trapsing thru our backyard past few weeks and yo-tees are more active - paw prints and scat in our rock yards (we don't have grass in desert). Purdy cool eye candy for city dwellers! It's not too clear but here's a pic of bobcat jumping over our back cinderblock fence - kinda hard to see between bars on windows and fig tree...

Ah, yes, the orange blossoms--nothing like that aroma that makes the air almost heavy with it. I can't have the oranges here, but I planted several lilac bushes!
