What's it like up there, son is relocating to Ft Drum right after first of the
year. I'm hoping to take a run up there before fall with DIL to scope it
out and see what its like. I hear lots and lots of snow. At least its in
the states.

Central NY here.

I can not speak to the Rochester area.

As I understand it, Watertown, and the Ft Drum area is a typical military town. Just to the North, along the St. Lawrence Seaway, are supposed to be some nice towns.
And, of course, Canada.

We do get snow. But there is the winter activities that come along with the snow: Downhill and cross country skiing, snow machines, snowshoeing, and ice fishing.
In the summer, there is camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, kayaking and or canoing, and a whole lot more.
Beware of the guy with only one Cast Iron pan . . . he likely knows how to use it.
