What would make me worth having in a group is I'm a United States Military Academy graduate, a black belt in traditional Jiu Jitsu, I've worked as an Infantry Platoon Leader, and a Recon Company Executive Officer. I've done 2 weeks of tactical carbine and pistol training at the US Training Center (Black Water). I hobby at gardening. I am a quick learning and easy to train.

I'm working on my Masters in Sports and Health Sciences. My BS is in pre-law with a minor in Enviormental Engineering.

I'm not super religious, nor am I a militia nut. I think I'm looking for a normal group of folks that I click with and want a good younger guy on their team. I'm not set on a location, really I just need some guidance on where I can be successful, and I like the mid-west is where I'm going to endup. After i find the right group i'll steer my career there.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this but I figured I'd give it a first shot.

Thanks.
John

Sac county here, looking for like minded individuals, people to collaborate, maybe even pool for group buys. Prepping, even at my pace, stretches the budget.

Iowa City. Just learning options for second 1/2 of life after too many decades working too hard with nothing to show for it but illness & physical disabilities. Fed UP with U.S. gov., and with this town, in every way.

Thank you all for all the knowledge on this site; I'm already learning a lot.

Hail and well met fellow Iowa preppers.

I live in western Iowa, and have been working on preparing for over 3 years now. My wife and I have installed a solar panel array large enough to run the house, our 2 on-site wells, and the basic home necessities. I plan on adding to this in the next year or 2 so I can run PAC units in the house off of the solar array for heat and AC, allowing me to get rid of the propane tank.

I will be adding a 3rd on-site well spring of 2014 and setting up my produce, orchard, and landscaping on automatic watering cycles. This will run off the solar array also.

My solar setup is built with 2 islanding devices that allow me to run independent of the national grid when that goes down. Without those devices installed, if the grid goes down i get no power from my array as federal law requires that you be hooked up to the grid. This is the ONLY way to bypass this ridiculous law. However, plz note that u must have battery backup units also installed for the islanding devices to work. As i do not wish to soak up forum/posting space unless necessary, if you are interested in more information on my array setup and how it works i will answer any questions posted about it.

i hunt and fish to provide alternative meat sources. i also have a large garden and orchard from which we can most of our vegetable and fruit needs. We sell the excess to local farmer's markets, grocery stores, and local town/city residents. (my wife's jams r a HUGE hit :D) i have plans to install a cooler for storage and processing within the next couple of years, and will start making apple and various fruit ciders for personal consumption and sale. (our personal needs are always the priority. it is my goal however to build my "hobby" business up to the point where it supports my on-site projects). if anybody has any questions on canning, gardening, and/or orchards plz feel free to ask me. i will answer any questions that i can. plz note that all of this is an ongoing learning process (u never know enough imo) and that i m not an expert by any means.

well, i think i've taken up enough space for now. just wanted u all to know that although i m a newb :D, i m not a total newb :P

Iowa City here. Anyone want to chat, feel free to drop me a line. Any one in the area what to meet up for coffee and a chat drop me a line.

OK, about me, old, do not suffer fools lightly (although one of my favorite hobbies is a battle of wits with unarmed opponents, especially if I can make them suffer), broke, beard. Been awhile since I was last at APN. Love to read and have read most everything (except what ever book you are asking about naturally). Want to know something about me or in general? Feel free to ask. I may not know it all (HA! Just kidding! Of course I do!) but what I do know about I would be happy to share.

Just joined the site today. Hello from Dallas County. and hello to the Harrison county preppers. I worked over there out of Woodbine for a few years and that has to be one of the places with the nicest people Ive ever been. Ive been prepping for quite a few years now (slow and steady pace) get what you can when you can. I have also been studying and finally instigated a basement aquaponics setup on a minimal budget that is thriving. (lettuce at its peak was growing 2-3 inches a day.)if you have questions on any of it just ask.
