If you're a PREPPER in WA, I want to meet up

Postby ranger » Wed Apr 28, 2010 9:22 pm

I"ve been hunting and fishing and camping and fixing my own truck and motorcycle and generally trying to learn "self sufficiency" since I was a kid.
My favorite books and movies are those where the Sh#t has Hit The Fan, or somebody's stuck on an island and has to figure out what to do next.

I've spent an increasing amount of time on this site (and others) the past few months and have learned a lot...but I think we spend waaaaay too much time staring at screens these days, and I kind of feel like I'm spinning my wheels.
I'm a teacher and photographer, and am always trying to get kids to spend less time pushing buttons, and more time getting out into the world and pursuing their interests, so I'm going to take my own advice.

I'm interested in the people behind the posts. I want to meet you, hear what you're about, learn a thing or two, see the stuff you've done or projects you've got going on, and take some photos so that other people can feel like they've met you, know what you're about, and share all this stuff in a more "real" way.

If you're a prepper in Washington, or know someone who is, please let me know.

Hey Ranger. I'm here in Wa. I live in the Lynnwood/Mukilteo area. I am fairly new to prepping, but have come a long way! You can "PM" me if you like...

I am a PREPPER but not fully set up yet. I am out on Key Peninsula and we are trying to get a local support group together. Don't know where I stand with the group yet, but hope to be included in the projects.

Hey Ranger,

I totally agree with you that people need to get out and do, not sit inside and plan. I would love to get together some time, I live in the North Tacoma area, and work around the state, I would love to get together share ideas, and maybe hit a trail or two, and use some of the basic skills we might need. What region of the state are you in. What kind of experience do you have? What kind of projects are you looking at getting off the ground? Well hopefully you are still active and feel free to PM me or just reply on here so we can keep others in the loop of what we are doing.

OK the P.M.A.G. (Peninsula Mutual Aid Group) will be meeting at Jackson Train Park in Port Orchard on Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 25th at 1:00 PM. This will be a family friendly meet and greet at a family friendly public park. If you can review the QC rules prior to coming to the meeting you will be ahead of the game because that will be basically what our main topic will be about. The P.M.A.G is trying to get its rules set down on paper.
First off we are a prepper group not a paramilitary group, Our group is trying to help others get ready for possible hard times ahead. Be those hard time economic, or natural disaster. We do not come to meeting dressed in camouflage and recommend all that attend to dress street casual. We do not talk about weapons, guns or hunting at our meetings. If you wish to talk with your friends in privet about such topics at a different place and time it would be greatly appreciated.

We hope to have other topics to discuss too and hope to have some questions to field as well. Both meetings should be pretty much the same topics, we are just having two meeting to try and make contact with as many people as possible.

We hope to demo a rocket stove by the 25th.

I'll see what I can do. Is this limited to the Peninsula area or can other folks attend? Sounds like a GREAT idea you have going over there! :)

This P.M.A.G meeting is for all that want to come and share knowledge on prepping and such. We are just sort of starting out and want to make contact with as many folks as we can and learn what we can. Maybe later we will divide into small regional groups closer to our homes. I repeat you all come on over to the meet and greet on the 10th and 25th of July. Look above for details.

Well the 10 July P.M.A.G meet and great was productive, I feel. We discussed the current version of the Stove Tec Rocket stove. We felt it was good for a pre-positioned base camp with a sheltered cooking area. The stove should not get water on the fire brick liner also the fire brick could break if dropped and the carrying handles not so good for one man carry very far (23 lbs), not good for two person carry on woodland trails. Like I said great for a base camp. Hold heat a long time so do not carry hot unless you like branding yourself. We discussed a nice 6 qt black enamel stock pot that came with three internal perforated units that can be used as sieves, strainers, or steaming baskets or remove to just boil water. continued . . .

We then went over the QC rules as posted on the state blog page, I linked it earlier. The members that reviewed the rules agreed to incorporate the rules into our group rules, in whole or part. We discussed what is required to become a member and such. We then went over some common eatable wild plants such as thistle, dandelions, common plantain, and Salal berries. We reviewed to books good for use as field guides to find eatable plants. We reviewed plant leaf structure of common and English plantain and how to peel a thistle leaf and stock. That was about the meeting went a little over the allotted time but was a good meeting, the location at the park was great and the mini ride on train was running.

tsol75 It would be a long drive for you and a bridge toll to come over to the Peninsula. I think there was a person called SERE-PRO on here that should also be close to your area.
What do you bring to the table in the way of skills and such? You don't need to go in to great detail.
PM or e-mail me. . . . we can talk
