Brief Description: In a major disaster or emergency would you know what to do to protect yourself, your family, and your neighborhood? Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, training is designed for the average citizen to become better prepared for emergencies. The training includes basic level disaster preparedness, fire safety, first aid, search and rescue, disaster psychology, and terrorism. Classes are free and open to the general public. Brief Description: This CERT Team will be serving the Pendleton County Area with teams located in serveral small communities. Meetings are held every third thursday of the month at the Pendleton County Emergency Management office in Franklin. There are now 45 members trained and available for disaster emergencies.

Brief Description: If a disaster event overwhelms the communities professional response, it it vital to have CERT trained personnel. The CERT program trains citizens to provide essential basic skills to assist family, neighbors, and co-workers until first responders can arrive. CERT members may also assist in non-emergency situations such as health fairs, safety demonstrations, and in disaster preparedness. This training is free and open to the public. Wyoming

Brief Description: Kanawha County is the population center as well as the center of state government. The topography makes a large area of the county conducive to flash flooding. Chemical plants dot the landscape of the county. Three interstates converge upon downtown Charleston. A river that supports commercial navigation passes through the downtown area and two rail lines flank the downtown. All of these are transportation routes for HAZMAT. Having a trained CERT force is a strong asset in an area such as ours that could endure an emergency event that could overwhelm first responders.

Brief Description: The first 12 to 72 hours after a disaster is the most critical. What would you do if emergency personnel were not able to get to you or your community during this timeframe? The CERT Program provides training in emergency preparedness and basic response techiques to citizens who in turn take an active role in personal and public safety. CERT Members will receive a 20 hours of training in seven areas. CERT member are not intended to repalce a community's response capability but rather to serve as an important supplement to it. A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be developed in communities, businesses both private and non-profits, colleges, hospitals, etc. Ohio County also recruits medical professionals for the Medical Reserve Corps. The Whg.-Ohio Co. E.M.A. and the Ohio County Sheriff's Dept. is one of 9 programs in the US that have been recognized as a Volunteers in Police Service Academy. Citizens interested in becoming volunteers for local law enforcement should contact the E.M.A.

Brief Description: After the flooding of 2000 the ACC teamed up with the WV Divison of Environmental Protection and the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA ) to assist Monongalia Co., Taylor Co. and Marion Co. in the aftermath. The ACC set up a team to assess damage and began an eight month recovery and cleanup effort. This was the start of the ACC Emergency Response Team. After 9-11-2001 the ACC became trainers for FEMA and held the first CERT train- the- trainer courses in WV. The course was setup for County emergency managers, police officers, fire fighters and paramedics to understand the function and duty of each responding agency in the community and to enhance communications in the event of a catastrophic disaster. The ACC is on call 24 hours a day to respond to any natural or man made disaster with its certified Search and Rescue Team(SAR) and specialized recovery team.

Brief Description: West Virginia K-9 Search & Rescue, Inc. WVK9SAR) is a non-profit, all volunteer group based in Charleston that is dedicated to the purpose of finding lost persons (living and deceased) with trained dog teams. Teams are available 24/7 and respond statewide. There is never a fee for our services. The group is trained in CERT to provide additional aid to first responders in our community.
