As fyi … Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) are 1 of 5 programs under Citizen Corps. CERT members actually get trained in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations and is usually delivered in 2-1/2 hour sessions, one evening a week over a 7 week period. Some communities offer courses no charge while others charge a small fee. And several communities even have Teen CERTs.

Some other programs under Citizen Corps include Fire Corps, Medical Reserve Corps (MRCs), USAWatch (a.k.a. National Neighborhood Watch) and Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS). These programs all rely on volunteers from local communities.

Some Affiliates and Organizations that work closely with Citizen Corps include American Radio Relay League (ARRL), The American Legion, Civil Air Patrol, Girl Scouts,, Jaycees, National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) and many others.

If you don’t see a CERT posted above in your area (or if you can’t reach a CERT contact above since they do change hands sometimes), visit http://www.citizencorps.gov and search your zip code to see if there is a program near you.

And finally … check out a thread discussing Citizen Corps + various disaster/prep volunteer groups + learn about online CERT courses at viewtopic.php?f=106&t=4030

Do you happen to know where the EOC is for Lewis and Clark. I am new here and just saw the CERT posting but my internet won't let me get to the site. I'm on Ft Harrison and didn't know if it was State DES on the fort or not.

Hi davidh .. per County site... Lewis & Clark Disaster and Emergency Services (DES) Paul N. Spengler - DES Coordinator addr: Law Enforcement Center Basement 221 Breckenridge Ave. Helena, MT 59601 (406) 447-8285 http://www.co.lewis-clark.mt.us/departm ... vices.html

Above link also has a CERT pamphlet & registration form in PDF on right side of screen. Not sure if Ft Harrison has their own EOC or not - sometimes they do, other times they coordinate with Co ES or state as you mentioned. Just PM me if you need me to dig a little more. Hope this helps! :) itsa (Janet)
