VA & NoVA Communications

Postby VA181 » Sun Apr 24, 2016 2:59 pm

Hello Virginia,

In an effort to start connecting preppers in Northern Virginia and across the state I'd like to promote the idea of communications.

Who hasn't heard of AmRRON?

If you haven't go check them out.

In NoVA we meet on the Woodbridge wireless 70cm repeater at 444.900mhz every 2nd and 4th Sunday night at 2030.
We meet on MURS CH3 immediately following the net. Frequency: 151.940mhz
(MURS CH3 is license free meaning anyone can talk on that frequency without needing a license, like using a CB radio)
A lot of us monitor that frequency all day everyday and especially during emergencies.

For the whole state a net has started that meets every Monday night at 2000 in the 80m band at 3.818 LSB

Even if you can't participate you should attempt to monitor the traffic. That way you know that in an emergency you can at least still receive from these stations that will be supplying current and relevant information.

Recommended hand held radio: Baofeng UV-5R (UHF/VHF local)
Recommended base station radio: Baofeng UV-5001 (UHF/VHF local)
Recommended base radio antenna: Comet CA2x4SR (UHF/VHF local)(use mfj groundplane)
Recommended HF radio to transmit and receive: Yaesu ft-857d (HF statewide/ worldwide)
Recommended HF radio antenna: Homemade dipoles, commercial multiband dipoles
Recommended HF radio for receive ONLY: CountyComm GP-5 SSB (Only $80!) (HF statewide/ worldwide)
Recommended HF radio antenna for receive ONLY: Kaito portable longwire antenna

****AmRRON will be running their major annual readiness communication exercise June 10-12****

The next AMRRON signal exercise will be August 10-12, 2017. That's enough time from now to study, take your ham test (take 2, get your Tech License and also get General class so you can use lots more HF), and get a station set up.

Learn! Communicate! Prepare!

Good luck. You guys living in the communist north are going to need all the help you can get, if you plan on staying.
