Convincing family to prep

Is anyone having trouble convincing family that bad things can and do happen out there? My spouse gives me that "your crazy"" look when I tell her that someday the grocery store might be empty and not re stocking for a long long time. She thinks its always been there and will always be there, nothing could possibly happen. I guess its the head in the sand syndrome. I keep prepping anyway.

Thankfully my spouse is on board with prepping. When I told him my concerns, he responded with, "So basically this is a green light for me to buy a lot of guns and ammo?" Whatever makes him happy!

Not sure where you live, but whenever I'm met with a dubious attitude, I point out that grocery shelves get wiped out in Virginia at the mere possibility of snow. Wouldn't you rather be prepared and not need it, than need it and not have it?

Convincing family members and friends usually takes lots of small baby steps. Good luck!

A couple of other things you might use are:

1. Think of the convenience of not not having to run to the store for an ingredient that you just ran out of in the middle of cooking. You'll always have everything you need "on hand".

2. Think of how much money you can save by buying in "bulk" with coupons when things are on sale! You can keep enough in stock to last until the NEXT time things go on sale.

Stop explaining. Just do it.

OTOH, if you're pure evil like me (< this is me), you do your prepping, store it nearby but out of sight, and the very next time there's a storm, an earthquake, a flood, etc., you just sit in your recliner with a Clif bar. When Spousie starts to get nervous, just say, "You said we didn't need to prep, so I didn't".

Usually getting them to see prepping for other purposes first such as saving money or natural disasters works pretty well. My late husband was skeptical at first. I'd always prepped on a much smaller scale and we didn't have the money really to amp it up the way I wanted to do. I did it anyway, finding methods that didn't hurt the already much too tight budget. He knew me well enough after nearly 30 yrs together to know objecting wasn't going to get him anywhere. I'd simply ignore him and do what needed to be done. After showing him some important articles or him catching some timely news casts.......he climbed aboard himself, then it was I who had to keep him in check. LOL
