Twas The Night Before Doomsday

Twas the night before Doomsday, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The shotguns were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes to survive the end that would soon be there.

The preppers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of zombies danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘vest, and I in my wrap,
Had just protected our brains with aluminum cap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

Planet X on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a golden horde in front and eight zombies at my rear.

Some were little and old, but lively and quick,
I knew in a moment, I must find a stick.
More rapid than zombies the sheeple they came,
Closer, and closer, so I called them by name!

"Now Fred! now, Betty! now, Peter and Vinny!
On, Carri! On, Bill! on, on Donna and Blake
To the top of the porch! they began to crawl!
So I shot them! cut them! and got them all!"

Then all of the sudden meteors fly,
Meeting with obstacles way up in the sky.
The water gets deep, the earth's begins to creep,
The stars fall and we all begin to weep.

And then, in a twinkling, the dark turns to light.
The sun begins to shine, it's ever so bright.
The earth settles down and begins to spin,
And just like that, it all starts again.
