FDIC Friday A day celebrated in financial circles every week because of the FDIC's propensity to shut down and take over troubled banks on a friday so as to minimize the impact on the stock market. Makes me glad I only conduct business with a credit union.

The exact same thing can happen to a Credit Union, if NCUA steps in. Signs to watch for..does your credit union have as many branches as Walgreens have pharmacies? When credit unions attempt to become as large as banks they will eventually be bought out by another credit union. Also, watch your fees. When a credit union begins charging fees that are similar to a bank..get out of that credit union. Stay with your smaller credit unions that actually remember that they are owned by the share holders, the members. I actually printed out a 3 page fee schedule from another cu and was shocked..heck they even charged a fee to change a persons address!! That cu, which was one of the largest in the city has been bought out by another cu, from a different state bcz they extended themselves to the brink of filing a bk. CU are non for profit organizations..their profits are returned to the mbrs in lieu of higher dividends, lower interest rates and free services.

It's a small CU and has two branches in the same large town. As with anything else one has to comparison shop.No fees, the best return possible on CDs, we had our mortgage with them as well as car loan for DH. Never a problem, always professional and courteous service with real people.

I bank with a small town bank, only three branches in the local rural towns, but I always keep cash out and am prepared to drain the account at a moments notice. Just hope I am quicker then they are. Grin

Even here in rural Wyoming, our two REPUBLICAN senators (Enzi and Barrasso) get approximately 70% of their campaign payola from out-of-state corporations and wealthy CEOs.

sorry, typo.
This has little to no relevance to me. I simply stated that I prefer to conduct business with a credit union.

And the weekly event continues. Is it becoming so expected and commonplace that everyone is just yawning about these events? What does that say about the situation and about us?
