Well let's hope, then, that Rex Tillerson has a long and fruitful career.

North Korea missile launch: The most important things to know
http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/29/asia/nort ... index.html

(CNN)North Korea broke a two-month lull in weapons testing with a dramatic launch of its most advanced missile yet, an intercontinental ballistic missile it claims can reach the "whole" US mainland.

The country's state media declared the Hwasong-15 missile was "the most powerful ICBM" which carried a "super-large heavy warhead" to unprecedented heights of almost 4,500 kilometers (2,800 miles).

It was a dramatic show of force and technical capabilities from Pyongyang, which had not conducted any military tests since September 15, raising suggestions that perhaps the rogue country was heeding warnings to halt its provocations and cease its weapons program.

Key points
Hwasong-15 is a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile, an upgrade of Hwasong-14
Fired 3 a.m. local time Wednesday from mobile launcher in Pyongsong, South Pyongan Province
Reached a height of 4,475 kilometers (2,800 miles), higher than ever before
Splashed down off the Japanese coast, within the country's Exclusive Economic Zone
South Korea responded with a "precision missile strike drill"

Precursor to nuclear test?

North Korea's last test in September set off a firestorm of condemnation in the region and beyond, with multiple warnings from US President Donald Trump, including one issued during his stop in South Korea where he implored North Korea, "do not try us." --- CONTINUED at link, above ----

McMaster: North Korean threat increasing every day
http://abcnews.go.com/ABCNews/News/mcma ... al_fb_abcn

The threat emerging from North Korea’s rogue regime is “increasing every day,” according to White House national security advisor H.R. McMaster.

"I think it's increasing every day," McMaster told moderator Bret Baier Saturday afternoon at the Reagan National Defense Forum in Simi Valley, CA. Referring to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, McMaster added, “Every time he conducts a missile launch and nuclear test, he gets better. And whether it's a success or a failure isn't as important as understanding that over the years he's been learning from failures, improving and thereby increasing his threat to all of us.”

On Tuesday, North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile which flew for approximately 50 minutes, soared 2,800 miles into space and achieved the highest altitude and longest flight duration of any North Korean trial launch to date. The launch constitutes North Korea's 15th missile test in 2017, and third-ever ICBM test.

McMaster also reassured Americans who plan on traveling to South Korea for the Winter Olympics this coming February; “Americans should feel safe because we have an extraordinarily ready and capable military and that military is getting stronger every

I don't think he will launch one, not because he gives
a rodent's rear end about the UN or decorum, but
I don't think he has one cued up and ready to fly.

I dunno about that. The pattern of what he's doing is more like someone else is providing the nukes & the "tests" are for show. While we're busy denying he could have x, y, or z his suppliers could be busy making certain he's armed to the gills. Meanwhile, whomever is backing him is also armed to the gills. These so called "tests" of his are an implied threat, not an actual test.

We've already done the worst we could do in grossly underestimating LFM & his backers. This UN business is just more stalling on our part.

Yup, I get the same feeling as you Mollypup.
For the moment we live in a day of peace, but it shall not ever be thus. Great trials lie ahead... and we must prepare ourselves temporally and spiritually.

China did something it's never done before to warn the US about fighting North Korea

China responded to an exercise involving the US and South Korean militaries with one near the Koreas that it said had never been done before.
China is asserting its position as Pyongyang's treaty ally amid escalating tensions between the US and North Korea.
It's in China's national interest to prevent a conflict involving North Korea - and in the Korean War of the 1950s, China fought on Pyongyang's side.

As the US and South Korean militaries worked together on the largest-ever version of their annual air-power exercise on the Korean Peninsula, China did something that suggests it would consider backing up North Korea in the event of war.

On Monday, the same day the exercise started, a spokesman for China's air force said it had staged exercises along "routes and areas it has never flown before" with surveillance aircraft over the Yellow and East seas near the Korean Peninsula, according to the South China Morning Post.

While China needs to exercise its constantly expanding and modernizing military, this exercise most likely had another purpose.

"The timing of this high-profile announcement by the PLA is also a warning to Washington and Seoul not to provoke Pyongyang any further," Li Jie, a military expert based in Beijing, told the Post, using the abbreviation for the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

With a record 24 US stealth aircraft in South Korea for the Vigilant Ace exercises, China's move sends a clear message.

The US and South Korea have up to 260 aircraft training to take out important North Korean targets in a realistic simulation of an air war.

While China agrees with the US that Pyongyang's nuclear-weapons progress is dangerous, it fundamentally disagrees on the preservation of the North Korean state.

China, North Korea's main trading partner, could effectively defund Pyongyang and bring about the collapse of the government, as the US has encouraged. But China's national interest lies in keeping North Korea as a buffer state to prevent the US from staging troops on its borders.

In the Korean War of the 1950s, North Koreans backed by China fought US-backed South Koreans in a brutal war that is technically ongoing because it ended in a cease-fire rather than a peace treaty.

China's latest military exercise may serve as a reminder to the US that the two military powers could find themselves on opposite ends once again should conflict break out with North Korea.

Seems good ol' China isn't worried about us either. Don't know about anyone else but this is the move I expected China to make.

if you're not familiar with that post WW2 period of history - communist China was nothing but a Russian stooge back then - most of the communist movements were all inspired by Russian educated lackies - China's entry into the Korean War was all Russian push ....

China want's to solve the Little Fat Boy problem just as bad as the US - the powers to be have a luxurious life sending crap over to the US - last thing they want is some major war that upsets that apple cart ....

China is still building and expanding their global reach - not ready yet for a face-to-face with the US and the West ....

The Chinese seem to not know what they are doing though. They are, if the above article is correct, stumbling their way towards a situation that will have no exit, other than war. If that happens, yes, they will destroy us, but will do so as they watch us turn their own country (and probably a half dozen of their neighbors) into a wasteland.

Because of the ICBM'S. Right along with everything else that's going on. I fear that we're a few steps closer to a war of some kind
