Preparedness General Discussion
Our main problem is that like Driven, we live in southern ca. Want a CCR, forget about it, they aren't issuing until after all the court fights are over about 2 years from now. At 74 I don't worry to much about not having a permit and using a gun to protect the wife, and me. At the speed and, the way the courts work I will probably die of old age before going to court.....

I always figured there is more to life than just earning a living. Sure I have lived in some crap places for the money, but not for very long. Swamp
People rarely notice what it right in front of their eyes. The Da Vinci Code
Highly doubtful it would affect our neck of the woods. Sure, we have plenty of liberals.......ok, we have a few......but they're so outnumbered (and much of the area is armed) that they're not going to try anything stupid. Nor would law enforcement use kid gloves with them. So again, they are not likely to do anything stupid.
Most likely the only action you would see is on tv news unless you were foolish enough to venture into areas you shouldn't or areas where protests are taking place.
That said, it still doesn't hurt to be aware of your surroundings & people nearby when venturing out, especially if you're in a city. I think of the video of the poor older man drug from his car & taunted / beaten while being accused of voting for Trump.........as they were bold enough to video it. (still hoping the idiots involved were arrested, can't say I've heard)
Out of everyone here you seem like you could be the most affected by anything, unless the big cities start to riot. Hope your daughter takes you up and comes home for a visit.
As liberal as Vermont is, I'm not worried at all, or at least no more worried than usual.
Thank you all for playing.
I am in a very rural area and, admittedly, out of touch with society in some regards.
Not Ted Kaczynski out of touch, but enough I can not name a current prime time sitcom.
Those of you in urban areas, your input and observations are valued.
Good advice all around.
Beware of the guy with only one Cast Iron pan . . . he likely knows how to use it.
I'm nearly halfway in between Philly and NYC. I'd expect protests in those cities. Perhaps even in Jersey City or Trenton. I'm at least 30 miles away from the closest of those 4. Where I actually live, commute, and work is not going to see any of that. I also don't wear my politics on my sleeve. Thus, I'm not likely to get my tires slashed or truck windows broken by some anonymous POS in the middle of the night because of a bumper sticker they don't like. No political affiliations are advertised.
If there's a week of escalating protests, I'll just have something to watch with popcorn as things clamp down on those potential pockets of unrest. Safe to say most police departments have plans for this, and of course there's the National Guard. My only concern would be if there's some actual disruption to the continuance of government with our newly elected. That would be bad. In that event... I'd work from home, bug in, and stay tuned into developments.
Not to worried...!!!
In my area, It really would not be vary smart for protesters (what ever they are) to come walking down the road.
Neighbor's would ban together.
Any ways its to flip'in cold for those idiots to venture this far out of there comfort zone.
I would be more worried about martial law. Don't think it will happen..never know.
Haven't been in Detroit in over 10 years, nothing there for me, last time I was there was for the casino's, and all they did was take my money.
I have my boundary lines between suburbia and rural and seldom cross them.
just my 2 cents
There are two sides to this,
and a lot of grey area in between.
Some folks go rural---Good for them!
Some folks cant---work, family, health...
A young, healthy person, with no ties, can just load a backpack, and start walking.
Many do not fit that category.
The point I am trying to get to, is
Rural or urban, you need to be where your stuff is.
If you are urban, and plan to bug-out you had better have deep pockets.
Enough so that you can afford a fully stocked and equipped BOL.
If things get rough, you're going to need ALL your stuff.
Not just what you can take with you on a bug-out run.
Even then, you run the risk of arriving to find that your stuff has changed hands,
and is no longer yours.
Some folks may have another option.
That is to go to rural family or friends.
If that is your plan, there are a few things you need to do now.
1) Make arrangements with your hosts. Don't show up unexpected.
2)Contribute regularly to their preps. Find out what they need.
3)Find out and learn the skills you need in order to be an asset---not a liability.
4)Familiarize yourself with their ways---visit regularly.
If you can, move now.
If not, prep, prep, prep...and plan to hunker down for the long haul.
Wishing the best to everyone.
Love this..... Especially 2and 3!
Long way from home right now, near Blythe, California, in Quartzite, Arizona.
Long as I can fill with diesel once or twice and get my propane tank filled before
I leave, will get there. We will be going home in Feb so think whatever will be
all over, though the last week will be in Vegas, again, expect nothing there either.
I do carry in my "house", though my husband thinks its not wise. Guess if I ever end
up in jail, hummm, I'll find out if he would bail me out?? LOL!
Here its mainly a bunch of old codgers, I expect no problems here. And I can detour
around cities going back home. Once there no issues. Have been giving DH advice
to take money out of the bank but he is ignoring me. Believe me your banks don't
keep much cash on hand. I don't expect any problems, I think Trump would like to
see them though so he can shut down transport, shut down journalists and
communications and even close banks and shut down highways.
I just wonder if you guys would change your opinions when we see Russian troops
on our shores? I can remember when people feared that. He might bring them
in to put down any protests since Americans might not be willing to fire on other
Americans. Would you consider that a threat? I think we are going to see times
of great confusion, confusion over what his policy is today versus what it is tomorrow
and with his thin skin always after someone. Not sure how that will translate into
As far as worrying about where we live I'm not, its to far off the main drag to be
effected that much by unrest. We like everyone would be effected by cut offs
of imports as we are totally reliant on china, that is also a big danger. We have
a pretty far amount of most everything but would eventually run and theres always
that something you forgot.
Just a note, I guess there was a shooting at mile marker 89 at a rest stop on I 10,
people here asked me how I got through as the whole area was shut down. I had
went I 8 then back up to 10 to bypass Phoenix so missed it. But they do shut
down highways even over something like that.
Last time I checked that was called a crime scene. So yes, they would shut it down.
Russian troops on our shores!!! Get your head out of that place. No 1 you are in Arizona. About the only place you can't carry a gun strapped to your waist in plain sight, is a bank or a bar. No. 2 until they repel the 2nd. no one will land troops on our shores. there were more hunting rifles in Pennsylvania than used in WWII. Unless we let the Libs take our guns we are safe. I don't know why I bother ????
Protesters wouldn't bother coming down to our area. First, because it's WAY too far off the beaten path; second, because there are WAY more conservatives than libs around here; and third, because they'd probably get LOST just trying to find their way here. Lastly, since there are so many people who do carry (gotta LOVE being in a "Constitutional Carry" state!) and openly at that, they'd probably wet their britches before running back to their "safe spaces".
"Guns are like shoes...a woman should have one in EVERY caliber!"
Red Dawn is coming!!!! I hear Trump has a secret plan with Russia to let them take the CA coastline so they don't release his pee-pee video! You know its true 'cause CNN said it's so after Buzzfeed said it's so after some other guy said it's so....Soooooooooo...
Ooo!! Ooo!! Dibbs! I get to be Patrick Swayze!!!
And you bother because as beat down in CA as we are, you still care.
