The Fairbanks North Star Borough food warehouse contains food for 35,000 people for 30 days, the total population of the borough (including Fairbanks, the second largest city in Alaska) is 100,000 people. This stockpile feeds 35% of the population in a emergency at 3 meals a day. Is it a long term plan, no, but it is a start toward being prepared for regional disasters. There was talk of expanding it but the reality is that most here still have a homesteading mentality and keep large stores of food around because of our already spotty supply lines. The original point is that if someplace as remote and economically diverse as Alaska can create food stockpiles, why can't other states.

When we dropped those two bombs on Japan, the only survivors were those that had been trained to do like we were trained to do, under the desk and cover your head types. Stay away from windows and don't look at the bright light are two other measures to take. We or I haven't seen any other type of study that would be current on what to do. I guess after the cold war, didn't really seem like a war. But anyhow: this type of studies just dropped off the radar.

We and the world have greater and more devastating Nuclear bombs now, that will do much more damage. But I'm really not worried about that as much as some Idiot popping off a EMP. That would do more damage and cause more disruption of a way of life here. I do think that we can't keep going as we are with out something happening. What I don't know, is; what they are up to? there are too many things going on in the background behind our backs that we don't know about or can control. So we can only prepare for what may happen. And what is most likely to happen in our own location or area. We can't make ready for every event, but only the most likely. :nervous:

After reading about the different states that are readying for a possible Nuclear attack, My question is, why aren't more doing it? If a threat exist, why not get the citizens involved and prepared? Not just for the Politicians. They are spending our tax dollars to protect themselves and their families only. No educational programs, no instructional venues for our schools, no guidance for the millions of workers that are away from home during the day working. Nothing about what to do, where to go or how to survive.

What kind of message is this sending? Do you really think our government can protect us from an attack? Sound Off.

because its not the responsibility of the gov to prepare you or anyone else for anything. they like the people calm and controlling so sit back down on your couch and watch your tv... nothing to see here...

however, depending on the town you live, do prepare. Yuma, az for example, once a year the marines do a mass casualty exercise with the local emergency services... you can see youtube videos on what they do. theyre usually named jade helm in Arizona or some such nonsense...
