Like many families, our budget is tight. We are following the Dave Ramsey Baby steps, and we want to get in a better place with our preps, but we don’t want to divert too much money from paying off student loans. So I am trying to get creative with what we can do. Today I hit the jackpot, the police department I volunteer for was getting rid of two big wooden file cabinets, built like a dresser with four wide drawers. I got them for free. I think they’ll be great for preps, especially my home canning, a whole quart jar will fit upright in the drawer, and as I write the contents and date on the lid I’ll easily be able to see what I have and keep it rotated. I’m so excited as I’ve been trying to figure out with my husband how to get some better storage for the food storage our pantry can’t handle!

What kinds of things have you done to get ready on the cheap?

Look up the Latter Day Saints. They will sell to anyone.

    Example: 25 pounds of rice $10. 25# spaghetti $19.95

I bought 5000# of their supplies (rice, wheat, beans, macaroni, spaghetti, quick oats, etc.).

    Best prices anywhere.
