Our government and the media are trying to divide us.

They are trying to divide us by race
They are trying to divide us by sex
They are trying to divide us by age
They are trying to divide us by religion
They are trying to divide us by wealth
They are trying to divide us by party
They are trying to divide us by issues

They know a divided people can be controlled.

We must not let them divide us.

We can have our differences, but we must stand to together to protect our freedom and country.

The American people know of and clearly understand the premise behind this, but yet fail to understand how important it truly is. Over the last few decades, it seems that the importance has been long forgotten in the gluttony of high lifestyles, fancy cars, big TV’s and five-dollar cups of coffee from Starbuck’s. We have unknowingly been socially organized into different groups, with different mindsets.

We have been divided along the lines of race, pitting white against black, with Latino’s against both, using illegal immigration as a front. Rich against poor, Big Agriculture against small farmers, Big Pharma against natural medicines, young against old, environmentalists against conservationists. The list goes on and on.

” United we stand, divided we fall” is a phrase that has been used in mottoes by nations and put into song for all to sing. The basic concept is that a divided people can easily be destroyed.

The phrase has been attributed to Aesop, both directly in his fable The Four Oxen and the Lion and indirectly in The Bundle of Sticks.

The first attributed use in modern times is to John Dickinson in his revolutionary war song The Liberty Song.

In the song, first published in the Boston Gazette in July 1768, he wrote: “Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all! By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall!”

Patrick Henry used the phrase in his last public speech, given in March 1799, in which he denounced The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions.

Clasping his hands and swaying unsteadily, Henry declaimed, “Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs.”

At the end of his oration, Henry fell into the arms of bystanders and was carried almost lifeless into a nearby tavern. Two months afterward, he died and so too will these United States of America if we fail to come together in our weakest hours.

Standing together we can recover to become a strong and secure country in which we have the right to disagree, in which we have a voice, in which we can be different.
