How to Make Balloon Wine From Welch’s Grape Juice
    (NEW LINK, since original post)

Balloon wine enables novices to prepare homemade wine without purchasing expensive specialty supplies. Making wine out of grape juice requires fermenting the juice with yeast and sugar. A balloon traps the gases produced during the fermentation process. The results of this wine-making technique lack the subtle flavors found in traditionally made wines, but the alcoholic content is usually higher. (See Reference 1)

    Difficulty: Moderately Easy

    Things You’ll Need:

1 pkg (1/2 tsp.) active dry yeast
    4 cups granulated sugar
24 oz. (Two 12 oz. cans) frozen Welch’s grape juice concentrate mixed with 72 oz. water or 96 oz. (3 qt.) ready-to-drink Welch’s grape juice
    1 1/2 gal. bowl
    Long-handled spoon
    1 gal. jug, sterilized
    1 balloon
    1 rubber band

    Instructions at LINK, above ….

My dad made quite a bit of wine from this basic recipe back in the 70’s. The flavor wasn’t much different than if you had simply added vodka to the Welch’s, but it was fairly potent. He used one-gallon glass vinegar bottles and some sort of inexpensive glass goose-neck expansion resevoir/tube with a balloon as described.
